Django Consulting for a Workforce Platform: When One Consultancy Hires Another

ENOVIS, a software consultancy in Aruba, used Shipverra's Django consulting as an embedded, white-label team to build a custom workforce-management platform for its janitorial-services client, giving real-time visibility into projects, staff, and costs.

The situation

ENOVIS is a software consultancy based in Aruba that needed Django consulting to build a custom platform for one of its own clients, a janitorial services operation running multiple service lines (window cleaning, pool filter maintenance, recurring cleaning contracts) with a constantly shifting staff roster as people move between projects or take time off.

The buyer here wasn't a company looking to build its own product; it was a consultancy that needed to extend its delivery capacity without handing the client relationship to an outside vendor. ENOVIS needed a partner that could work inside its own delivery process, under its own name, while it retained ownership of the client relationship throughout.

Without a system in place, the operational complexity compounded: which janitor was on which project on a given day, what supplies were consumed, whose wages applied to which contract, and how to keep cost tracking accurate as staff changed mid-job. ENOVIS needed a custom platform that owned project and staff management end to end and gave the consultancy real-time visibility into its janitorial client's operations.

What we built

The engagement ran as a dedicated engineering team arrangement: ENOVIS extended its delivery capacity with Shipverra, a Python web development company, and the embedded team took ownership of the workforce platform build while ENOVIS retained the client relationship. Shipverra's engineers worked as an extension of ENOVIS itself, white label, with no separate vendor branding visible to ENOVIS's own client.

The platform tracks projects, staff, and resources across the janitorial operation. Cost tracking ties wages and supplies to specific projects, including wage variations when staff change mid-contract. Real-time visibility shows project status, staff location, and resource utilization in one view, so the operations manager runs the day from the platform instead of from spreadsheets and phone calls.

The backend runs on Django, with React on the frontend and Google Cloud Platform for hosting. User flows were designed against the consultancy's actual business-management needs rather than against generic workforce-management patterns, which is the kind of fit Django consulting can deliver when the team takes time to understand the domain instead of dropping in a template.

Engagement FAQ

What does a Django consulting engagement typically include for a custom business platform?

A typical build covers backend architecture in Django, data models for the domain (projects, staff, costs), and integration with a frontend framework. In the ENOVIS engagement, Shipverra embedded engineers to build project, staff, and cost-tracking features end to end, working inside the consultancy's own delivery process rather than as a separate vendor track.

How long does it take to build a custom workforce-management platform with Django?

Timelines depend on scope, integrations, and how much of the data model already exists. The ENOVIS platform was not built against a fixed one-off deadline; it ran (and continues to run) as an ongoing dedicated-team engagement, with features added as the janitorial client's operational needs evolved.

What's the difference between Django consulting and staff augmentation?

Django consulting usually means an outside team advises on architecture or reviews existing code from the outside. Staff augmentation embeds engineers directly into your delivery team. ENOVIS used the staff-augmentation model: Shipverra engineers joined as an extension of ENOVIS's own team, with ENOVIS retaining the client relationship throughout.

Can a Django platform handle real-time cost tracking when staff assignments shift daily?

Yes, when the data model is built for it. The ENOVIS workforce platform ties wages and supplies to specific projects and accounts for wage variations when staff move between jobs mid-contract, which keeps cost tracking accurate even as assignments change day to day.

What tech stack pairs well with Django for a workforce or operations dashboard?

React on the frontend and a cloud platform like GCP for hosting are common pairings, since Django's ORM and admin tooling carry the data layer while React handles the interactive dashboard views. That's the stack used for the ENOVIS platform: Python and Django on the backend, React.js on the frontend, Google Cloud Platform for hosting.
